The Colleges Of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, has suspended over two months old strike.
At a briefing in Abuja After its expanded national executive council meeting, COEASU president, Nuhu Ogirima Said the suspension has become necessary following reassurances from government to meet some of the workers key demands.
COEASU said the suspension is to enable government implement the agreements reached with the union.
Ogirima said however it will reconvene in januray to reaccess governments commitment and will not hesitate to stay away from work again if it reneges in the agreement.
He said government accepts decay of colleges of education and has agreed to implement the ‘NEEDS’ accessment report.
It would be recalled that Government through the minister of Education has met with the union over state governors poor funding and non payment of salaries in states colleges of education.
Ogirima also said government has agreed to release a white paper tagged: dual mode’ to implement partially for some colleges to award degrees.
The union said goveenment also promised to get back sacked members of Ogun state colleges of Education.
Though COEASU suspended its two months old action, but the nations tertiary education is still lockdown as the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) is struggles with inconclusive meetings with government while its strike persists and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics threatens to downtools next week over industrial dispute with government.
