The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has frowned at the breach of constitution on the handling of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.
The workers also warned that they would not tolerate continue interference on Judicial matters by both the presidency and the opposition, adding that such matters is Constitutional and not political.
A communique issued after an emmergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, said doctorine of separation of power must be adhere to.
The communique which was signed by the President Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and Isaiah M. Adetola also threatened to occupy Nasarawa state should the ongoing onslaught against her members continue.
The communique reads “JUSUN’s position on the suspension of the CJN and the appointment of the Acting CJN is that: all actors/parties should respect the Rule of Law and Sanctity of the Judiciary.
“The Doctrine of the separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) should be strictly adhered to.
“JUSUN hereby condemned the political coloration/dimension the matter has assumed, as the matter is not political but purely Constitutional.
“JUSUN also call on its members and the general public to be calm and awaits the decision of the National Judicial Council (NJC) which is the statutory body saddled with the responsibility to handle such matters.
JUSUN, as a Union is in support of the Anti-corruption policy of the present administration and equally urged the Government to ensure the implementation of the financial autonomy and independence of the Judiciary as contained in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)
The National Working Committee of JUSUN has totally condemned the withholding salaries of our members who are on strike in Nasarawa State following the unlawful deduction of their salaries.
The National Working Committee urge the appropriate authorities in the Nasarawa State Judiciary o as a matter of urgency pay the salaries of the affected officers without further delay, following the mutual understanding reached during the visit of the National President of the Union, failure of which may lead to occupation of Nasarawa State Judiciary and subsequent action that may follow”.
