The Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Mu’azu Aminu Maifata, has said, with the ongoing verification exercise across the 13 local government areas in the state, more ghost worker were been discovered in the systems.
Maifata who is also the Chairman of Lafia local government area, stated this to Newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia.
The ALGON Chairman said that the verification was necessitated due to the inability of nine local governments of Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon, Kokona, Karu, Doma, Obi, Toto, Nasarawa and Lafia to pay June salaries despite allocation directly received from the Federal Government.
He however listed the four local councils of Awe, Wamba, Keana and keffi who without recourse can conviniently pay their workers salaries.
He also discovered that some unpatriotic staff connived and slot into the payroll unapproved promotion lists, which thereby jacking up the wage bills of the affected councils.
He explained that through the verification exercise, it was discovered that the sum of N60 million was being diverted by the syndicates responsible for the abnormalities every month.
He attributed the menace of ghost workers and other illegal activities by some unpatriotic staff to the recent delay in the payments of June salaries.
Maifata therefore said that measures were being put in place to fish out the perpetrators and sanction them in order to clean up the system for better service to the people at the local levels.
