Abdulahi Adi a hundred level student from department of Computer science, is one of the major Victims of the recent banditry attacks in Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBU).
Adi who suffered a deep cut in his head told our correspondent that, the perpetrators of the dastardly act are also students of the same institution.
When the attackers came the first time according to him, they cut away with his phone and Laptop, he reported to the school securities, but they didn’t take any action.
“They came the second time and force me to give them the passwords of the items and on the process of putting the password I identified one of them, which they concluded to kill me that’s how you see this deep cut on my head. ” he narrated.
He told our correspondent that, the drama continued for a while, and the bandits numbering about 12 mostly 400 level students and one 100 level, position themselves in strategic areas, they over powered me and cut my head even as I attempted self defense.
Meanwhile, Management of the Institution said it has intensified strategies to curb robbery attacks on students in both on and off-campus hostels at Lapai town.
The school management stated this at a meeting to find lasting solution to security challenges in the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, expressed concern over the increasing rate of attacks by hoodlums on students staying off-campus.
Maiturare, who said IBBUL is known to be one of the most peaceful campuses in Nigeria, assured that efforts would be intensified to provide adequate security for students who reside both on and off-campus.
On the other hand, police in Niger state have arrested eight students of the institution in connection to the armed robbery.
The students were suspected to have been terrorising their colleagues by carrying out various robbery attacks across hostels of the institution.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mohammed Abubakar, said that the suspects were arrested following an alarm by other students
Our correspondent gathered that armed robbers have, within the last few weeks, carried out series of raid on the off-campus hostels housing students of the school.
