The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has demanded the cancellation of the advertisement for the post of Rector of Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State.
President of ASUP comrade Anderson Ezeibe in a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu said the advertorial breach the provisions of the Polytechnics ACT as amended as it is not authorized by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic thereby offending the provisions of 8 (2) of the ACT.

The letter which was also copied the Attorney General of the Federation, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Executive Secretary, NBTE,
the Director, Legal Services, FME and the
the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, the union had communicated to the ministry on the need to reconstitute the governing councils where tenures have expired.

“Our union has been consistent in the condemnation of the actions of key players in the administration of the sector which are in breach of provisions of the ACT, including the subsistence of a suit NICN/ ABJ/12/2020 (ASUP Vs Attorney General of The Federation, Honorable Minister for Education and 5 others) on similar breaches of the ACT. Similar suits are pending in Minna and Abuja on the contentious approval to transform the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Bida to a sole administrator.

“We had also in previous communications called the attention of the Federal Ministry of Education to the expiration of the tenures of the governing councils in Federal Polytechnics and the need to expeditiously reconstitute these councils in line with the provisions of the ACT.
“We are saddened by this latest affront to clear provisions of the ACT which is the latest addition to the growing list of acts capable of plunging the sector into intractable crisis by actors who should take responsibility for installing industrial harmony in the sector.

We are therefore requesting the cancellation of the advertorial in reference and the suspension of any action/ activity in that regard until the legitimate structures responsible
‘for such are put in place as our union will not be held responsible for any conflict which will arise from this illegality. While counting on your response in line with the rule of law, please accept the renewed assurances of our union’s utmost regard”.
