2022 LG Polls: APC Candidate To Restore Unity In Afikpo
From Beverly Ehia,
Abakaliki
The Chairmanship candidate under the of All Progressive Congress(APC) for the forthcoming local government elections in Ebonyi State Thursday, Mr. Uchenna Ibiam said if elected he would bring unity to Afikpo North.
Mr Ibiam who among other things said he would create an enabling environment for the youths to get busy and have credible source of income.
Ibiam disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Abakaliki.
While given reasons for his ambition, he said, “For some time now I have always wanted the opportunity to lead my people, but the opportunity came when the governor out of his magnanimity appointed me the coordinator of Ubenyi Development Center, to the glory of God I did excellently well I touched lives constructed so many motorized boreholes about eight in number, got transformers, high tension wires, graded roads, I did a whole lot of things and now it is a broader part that we are taken.
“I have always nursed that ambition in the development center you just impact a particular environment just some villages but when you talk about Afikpo North, in general, you are talking about 12 whole wards and the LGA is big. So I have always told God to bring me to this position so that I can impact positively on more lives because as a coordinator you are limited, you have your boundary and now it’s a bigger challenge and we are equal to the task.

“When you are going into a contest the first thing you do is to trust in God and then believe in yourself, believe that you have what it takes to emerge the winner these are things that gave me the courage and my records as a coordinator. I know that the masses are behind me U didn’t just come out before I could think about this my ambition I had so many calls saying you are the right person to go for us since the internal zoning arrangement of the party zoned the position to Unwana you need to come out so I know and sincerely believe looking at some other candidates coming out from other parties, they are not a match, you are being judged by what you have done before so I have bright chances and I know I’m going to make it.
“Our people are suffering in Nigeria entirely, local government funds can not be enough but there are some positive ways it can impact positively on society. So many of our youths are going into crime because they are not engaged positively, the first thing I’m going to do is to bring the youths together, create an avenue for them to get money idleness they said is a devils workshop, so they must be doing something to make their daily bread not staying in your house and be getting alert there are so many things we can do.
“Talk about security, when you secure your environment you build the confidence of the people around you, so we will go more into security to secure our borders and the environment at large and then we will also look at the school, come to academics come to the health sections, the council can pay for free medical outreach because the money belongs to all of us. It’s like a journey when you get to this junction you move to the next one, we will do well because already I’m not coming in as a layman I have had such challenges when I came in as DC coordinator and I surmounted them with the help of God and the Governor who released fund for us to do a project which we did, this time around we will do more.
“We are embarking on a healing process so many people are aggrieved, party differences, internal rancor, people moved out and new people have moved in so we will move round to our stakeholders both present and former, they were clamoring for change and now the change is here, so we will move round talk to all of them individually you know when you come down and talk to them they will listen to you and most importantly even when they say they have heard they will wait to know if the change you talked of theoretical will be practical”.
