Local Government Chairmen in Benue State today decried the spate of youth restiveness which has impacted negatively on the communities.
Speaking at a 3-day retreat on good governance organized for Local Government chairmen in the state, the chairmen also lamented the mistrust amongst stakeholders while advocating for stronger engagement with the people and communities using all available means.
The retreat which was declared open by the State Governor, Samuel Ortom, also encouraged government at the Local level to think outside the box and strategize on how to improve their Internally Generated Revenue in order to drive development at the grass root level.
Discussing further the Chairmen resolved that the various Local Governments should utilize multi-channel communication approach to enhance peace building and proactive conflict resolution.
The chairmen who identified the starvation of funds to the Local Governments as a major hindrance to their optimal performance, thereby advocated proper funding of local governments to further facilitate their performance.
Meanwhile the Local Government Chairmen have sued the state government’s partnership in order to develop initiatives specific to each Local Government in an attempt to quell youth restiveness.
