Convocation: COE Akwanga Produces 321 Students With Distinction In 8yrs
The College of Education (COE) Akwanga, Nasarawa State
has produced 321 students with distinction in eight years spanning from 2013 to 2020.
Rev. Jonathan Thani, Provost of the college made the disclosure at the 34th-41st combined convocation ceremony for the award of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) by the institution on Sunday at Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
He expressed happiness to be privileged and honoured to have the opportunity to host the 34th and 41st combined convocation ceremony.
He added that within these period the institution had produced 33, 902 graduates and 732 had credit, 23, 037 with merit, while the remaining had pass respectively.
The Provost explained that the feats were achieved due to the determination by staff and management of the the institution.
Rev. Thani added that when he assumed office in February, 2021academic programmes were overdue for accreditation and after writing several reminders, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) directed them to stop further admission of students.
“But thank God for Gov. Abdullahi Sule has released funds and and supported them and 30 departments as at today got full accreditation except one,” he added.
The Provost expressed gratitude to the governor for the infrastructural development and approving the recruitment of more teaching and non-teaching staff to meet up the requirement of NCCE.
“We have employed 389 additional staff, most of them were casual staff as directed by the governor,” Thani added.
The Provost also expressed gratitude to Tertiary Education Trust (TETFund), Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), and others for thier immense contributions toward the manpower and infrastructural development of the college.
He therefore listed some of there challenges to includes; inadequate lecture halls, laboratories and studios, inadequate hostels, inadequate vehicles among others and appealed to the state government and partners to intervene.
In his message, Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State commended the governing council, management, staff and students of the college for working assiduously to train the manpower needed to teach in primary and post-primary schools.
The governor said the government would commence the parameters fencing of the institution in phases to secure the college community.
Gov. Sule therefore congratulated the graduates as well as the personalities that were conferred with awards of Fellowship of the college.
Speaking on behalf of personalities that were conferred with award of Fellowship of College of Education Akwanga, Senator Umaru Al-Makura (APC, Nasarawa South), immediate governor of Nasarawa State, expressed gratitude to the institution for recognising their respective contributions in the society.
Al-Makura said that they are henceforth encouraged to contribute more especially towards education, adding that, ‘sound and quality education is the best legacy that can be given to the next generation.
Al-Makura, Hajiya Silifat Sule, First Lady, Dr Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar-Audi, Commandant-General, NSCDC, and Prof. Mohammed Sani-Haruna, Executive Director, NASENI were conferred with awards of Fellowship of the college.
