Following the inability of the Nasarawa state Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe to facilitate a conciliatory meeting between the management of Nasarawa state Judiciary and the striking members of the union, the national body of the union is set to resume occupation/protest in the state.
The union had suspended the action in the state shortly before the general election on the intervention of the CP who promised to ensure both parties return to the negotiation table.
Multiple sources at the national secretariat of the union in Abuja told PEOPLEREPORTERS that it appear the commissioner of Police who due to respect for his office intervened and asked the workers to stop the occupation with the pledge that he would facilitate the conciliatory meeting, only play with the sensibility of the workers.
The sources said three weeks after the Commissioner promised to ensure the matter is resolve, nothing was done and the workers are running out of patient.
Also in a letter addressed to the CP dated April 1, 2019, the union lamented that since the Commissioner promised to see to the end of the matter, they have not receive any communication from him.
The letter signed by the Assistant secretary, Saidu Magaji reads “ you could recall that the Union suspended its protest/occupation of Nasarawa State High Court on the 5thday of March, 2019 as a result of your kind intervention, so as to give room for dialogue with the management of Nasarawa State Judiciary.
Nevertheless, we wrote to you seeking for facilitation for a conveyance of a meeting between the management of Nasarawa State Judiciary and the Union as per our discussion with your humble self in your office.
However, it is about three or more weeks now from the date of our communication but we didn’t receive any invitation for dialogue on the matter.
It is in view of this that we write to remind you and appeal to you to kindly use your good office to push the process forward to bring this mater to an end so as to avoid further industrial disharmony”.
The letter was also copied the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Dikko, Governor Tanko Almakura, NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, the state Director of SSS and other relevant agencies.
