Nasarawa Varsity To Begins Engineering Courses In 2021

*inaugurates 13 man Committee

The Nasarawa State University has announced plans to commence Engineering Courses in the institution in 2021.

The vice-chancellor of the University professor Sulaiman Bala Muhammad disclosed this when he inaugurated a 13 member steering committee for the establishment of the faculty of engineering in the institution.

He said the institution has decided to commence the Engineering programme by 2021/ 2022 academic session with three departments which include; Civil & Structural Engineering; Electrical & Electronics Engineering; and Process Engineering.

The VC said that a complete school structure that is located at Gudi under Akwanga LGA of the state has been donated by the Governor of the state, Abdullahi Sule for the kick-off of the faculty of Engineering.

He added that the school structure which was earlier built as a school of disables need to be restructured to meet the engineering requirements

The event which held at the University Senate chamber had in attendance men of value who have made their marks in the academia and other aspects of human endeavours, particularly in the area of Engineering.

The 19-year-old University has eight (8) faculties spread across three campuses within the state. These include Keffi main campus, Pyanku campus Keffi and Faculty of Agriculture at Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

The main campus houses eight (8) faculties which include Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Law, Administration, Arts/Humanities, and Environmental sciences.

Pyanku campus is dedicated to Preliminary studies which include; Remedial programmes, IJMB amongst others.

13-man committee on establishment of engineering NSUK

PEOPLEREPORTERS can report that with the inauguration of the committee for the establishment of the college of medical sciences which held two weeks ago and now faculty of engineering, the Nasarawa State University now has ten (10) Faculties.

The VC in his address said “on an assumption of office as vice Chancellor of this great University, we came up with a 5-year action plan that will serve as a roadmap on how to move this university forward under my stewardship.

“Central to the action plan is to expand the science-based programmes of the University to meet the 60:40 ratios as stipulated by NUC and also to meet the manpower needs of the State/Nation in the areas of Health care and Engineering services. It’s on this basis that the idea to establish a college of Medicine and Health Sciences and Faculty of Engineering was given birth to”.

He added that in a bid to have a unique and strong Faculty of Engineering built on Solid Foundation, the management has selected carefully, good heads from various fields of Engineering and institution based on track records to form the 13 member committee.

The committee according to Prof. Bala Mohammed includes;
Prof. M. S. Haruna, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), a Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Prof. Ali Musa Kundiri, a renowned professor of civil engineering from the University of Maiduguri, amongst other high powered personalities were selected as members of the committee.

The terms of reference for the 13 member steering committee as spelled out by the VC includes; to consider the pathway and timeline for immediate take-off of the programme; To come up with the curriculum of the programmes; To Consider the advert for staff recruitment and advise as appropriate, among others.

The VC further commended Prof. Haruna of NASENI for facilitating the collaborations between the University, NASENI, DELORENZO Electrical Company in Italy and the Newfoundland University.

The chairman of the committee, Prof Haruna, in his acceptance speech thanked the management of NSUK for finding him worthy of the responsibility.

“The responsibility given to us is dear to our heart; as such we would do our best to achieving it within the possible time”.

Meanwhile, the registrar of the University Mal. Bala I. Ahmed II has applauded the committee members for accepting the task

He also commended the university’s governing council and the council chairman Prof. Adamu David Baikie for supporting the management tirelessly on its quest for greater NSUK.
