Five corp members to repeat their service year while three of them to serve some extension as four received state honours and merit awards, Niger State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Funmilayo Ajayi has said.
Fumilayo made this known in Minna at passing out parade ceremony of the 2019 Batch A Corps members, saying the two of the Batch A compatriots lost their lives due to illnesses during the service year.
Ajayi explained that those honored for outstanding performance includes; Ukechuku Nkamaka a medical doctor, Amina Zainab Ahmed while Abubakar Ibrahim Ismail and Ngoke Anthony Ukechi came third respectively.
She noted that they were recognized for their various Community Development Projects (CDP) that has impacted positively on the lives or their host communities especially in the rural areas.
Mrs Ajayi “those who lost their bearing along the way and failed to conform to the Ethics, Norms and Ideals of the NYSC Scheme to be sanctioned appropriately according to the dictates of the NYSC Bye – Law” she stated.
While she appreciated the state government for its hospitality and implored the out going members to be good ambassadors of the scheme by shining out the lofty ideas of scheme in their undertakings.
The Secretary to the State Government SSG and chairman NYSC Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane urged them to sustained greater patriotism, dedication, discipline and exemplary exhibited within their service year in the state, however announced N3,000 transport money for each of the outgoing corp members.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state represented by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Emmanuel Umar appreciated the scheme for contributing immensely to the development of the state as well as sustaining a peaceful coexistence and unity of the country.
He assured the scheme of more of its required facilities at the orientation camp and improved welfare package by his administration for effective and efficient operations.
He explained that the reintroduction of award categories was aimed at motivating corp members assuring the scheme of security of lives and properties during their service year in Niger state despite some security challenges that were being overcome.
