The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has decribed the death of the late chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Abba Kyari as a big lost to the union and the nation in general.
NULGE in a condolences letter to President Buhari, said late Kyari is a Friend of the grassroots who has stood with President Buhari openly in support of an independent local governments.
“Late Kyari is a legend, worthy of emulation, trustworthy and loyal to the core. We pray that the Lord grant him eternal rest and give you and his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
“Among many, one other thing you can’t take away from Kyari is that he was a friend of the grassroots, and a democrat who believe in the existence of Local Governments as the third tier of government”.
The letter which was signed by the NULGE President, Ibrahim Khaleel also said Kuari’s death should be seen as an avenue for those who still do not believe in the COVID-19 realities or who still considers this a hoax, to have a rethink and do all humanly possible to curb the spread of the raging virus in the country.
The Condolence Letter reads “We, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) are deeply saddened by the news of the demise of the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abba Kyari who lost the fight against COVID-19 disease.
“We recognise his high level of commitment, selflessness and sacrifices to the nation. His loyalty to your administration, and the country is no doubt enviable.
“Sadly, his death would leave a vacuum too large to fill considering his closeness to you and his family and most importantly his service to the nation. Although saddening, we should take solace that he has gone to be with his maker.
“His contributions and commitment to NULGE’s struggle on Local Government Autonomy were legendary. With his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, he openly canvassed and gave reasons why Local Government should be free. It was on record that he worked tirelessly to ensure that the Presidency supported and approved Local Government Autonomy, which was announced by President Buhari”.
