NUJ Seeks Partnership To End Banditry In Niger

The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Chapter Comrade Abu Nmadu has expressed the Council’s readiness to partner with the state Government and other relevant stakeholders to end security challenges facing the State.
This was the outcome of the union congress held at the IBB Press Centre on Thursday.
In a Communique jointly signed by Aisha Wakaso, Mathew Jwantu, and Onifade Adebayomi as Chairperson, Secretary and Member respectively, revealed that journalists were ready to partner with relevant government agencies to curb insecurity in the state
The council called on stakeholders not to leave IDP’s welfare in the hand of the Government, as government alone can not achieve the immense needs of the Internally Displace Persons in the state as a result of the security challenges .
The Union further challenged journalist to put first the interest of those abducted by bandits and their families, in their reportage for prompt attention to secure their release and not to further put them in danger.

It urged the security officers to keep an eagle eyes on the abuse of minors and young scavengers going round in the name of sourcing for scrapes materials and burgling people’s house. Stressing, it is another challenge to security of the state.
The Congress also called on the government to create a security situation room to promptly track the security challenges as they occur for rescue and prompt security action and safety of abductees in the state.
According to the Communique, the Council is set to award those who had imparted the life of people, to propel those that are yet to use their positions and offices to improve the life of the people in their community to follow suit for the sake of development.
The Congress also applauded the Executive of NUJ Niger state for starting the process of enrolling members into insurance policies that will better their life before and after service. In the same vein the congress lauded the leadership of the state council for the gradual infrastructural and welfare packages for members.
The Congress presided over by the Council Chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu set up committee to tidy up all landed properties and the titles belonging to the union for proper control and management.
The Union commended the state government for the deliberate efforts towards improving the state owned media organizations, appealing for more concentration on media equipments, production and welfare of members to Salvage it from extinction.
