DASH Awards Staff For Commitment To Tackle COVID:19

The Management of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia (DASH) has given awards of excellence to the team at its isolation centre for their efforts towards tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the award ceremony on Thursday in Lafia, Dr Hassan Ikrama, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of DASH said the recognition was due to the unprecedented success the team recorded in handling cases of COVID-19.
He explained that the event was aimed at rewarding the diligent and hardworking workers who had worked day and night, tirelessly for the state to be able to fight the spread of the virus and treat those infected.
He said that 2019-2020 was a trying moments for health workers worldwide and the whole world dependent on them when the virus was ravaging the world.
“The management of COVID-19 cases in DASH was superp and we recieved commendations from many places including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on how we handled the cases.
“At the peak of the outbreak, patients were being reffered from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja to our facility, because of the way we handled the case and we were getting result.
“All these successes were made possible because of the selflessness, dedication and commitment of our staff, so we need to recognise those efforts,” he added.

The CMD also said that the two Consultant Gynaecologists who died after performing surgery on a suspected Lassa fever patient were given posthumous awards.
Dr Nwaru Victor and Dr Esa Oga, Consultant gynaecologists both working with Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) Lafia died in 2021 after performing surgery on a suspected lassa fever patient.
He also announced that staff from all the departments were also given merit awards for pountuality, neatness, best Doctor, Best Pharmacist, best Nurse among others and promised to make it an annual event.
Similarly, Dr Agbawu Mek-Agbawu, Chairman of the award committee expressed gratitude to the CMD and other management staff for the confidence reposed on them and said the selection was on merit.
The committee Chairman said the awards were in three categories namely; those who shown commitment in tackling COVID-19, merits awards and posthumous award respectively.
He therefore said that they are not perfect and urged those who were not selected to be more dedicated and could be chosen in subsequent awards.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Dr Esther Audu said they never knew their efforts were being recorded and monitored.
She expressed gratitude to the management for the recognition and promised to sustain their dedication, as to her, ‘service to humanity is service to God.
