Ember Months: FRSC Advises Motorists In Akwanga Against Buying Tokunbo Tyres
CC Ibrahim Maiyaki-Bazama, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised motorist to desist from buying used tyres for their vehicles.
The Sector Commander of FRSC gave the advice at the inauguration of 2022 ember months campaign on Friday at Akwanga motor park, Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
“Motorists should cultivate the habit of always buying brand new tyres because this would help in preventing accidents on our roads and it is also good for the performance of the car.
“Buying of fairly used tyres is not good, because they must have expired or the tyre might not be good for the kind of roads we have in the country,” he added.t
He also said that over speeding was responsible for more than 75 per cent of road crashes recorded in Nasarawa State from January to date.
He therefore, advised commercial drivers as well as private vehicles owners to desist from over loading and over speeding especially at this time to remain safe.

On his part, CC Bishop Agounorobo-Agborie, Unit Commander of Akwanga LGA said the ember months campaign was aimed at enlightening drivers on safety rules and its implications in order to curtail road crashes.
He also warned those in the habit of taking drugs or drinking alcoholic drinks before driving to desist or if caught would be sanctioned.
Agounorobo-Agborie said that officers of the commission were deployed to strategic locations in the area to ensure smooth flow of traffic and curtail crashes.
He said this vehicles owners and drivers should check the conditions of their vehicles every morning before putting it on the road.
The Akwanga Unit Commander also expressed gratitude to those who graced the flat off and urged members of the public to always corporate with the commission for the safety of the high ways.
The flag off featured goodwill messages where the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) advised drivers to avoid taking drugs so as to see the road clearly when driving.
The FRSC also offered free medical treatment to drivers and other road users in the area.
The theme of the 2022 Ember Months’ Campaign is “Avoid Speeding, Overloading and the use of unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive.”
