13 Members-Elect Rejects Postponement Of Inauguration Of 7th Assembly
Following the announcement by the Acting Clark of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly postponing the inauguration of the state assembly scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, citing security reasons, 13 members-elect have rejected the move insisting on the inauguration.
Speaking to newsmen outside the Assembly complex, Daniel Ogazi (APC- Kokona East) an aspirant for the speakership position, said the security reason cited for the purported postponement was lame and does not hold water.
Ogazi pointed out the alleged security concern was not tenable as people were seen celebrating at the Assembly complex in anticipation of the inauguration of the seventh Assembly.
“As you you can see, 13 members-elect of the Assembly are here and waiting patiently to perform our constitutional responsibilities.
“A proclamation was already issued by Gov. Abdullahi Sule to the Clark and a day has been scheduled for inauguration, as such, nobody has the right to interfere again.
“We are here based on the letter of invitation by the Clark which signifies that the proclamation had been issued and the inauguration of the assembly will hold today,” he said.
He however, added that they were clocked by the security men at the gate from accessing the assembly complex.
He said that the security men denied them access to the complex and told them that they were obeying an order from the above.
Similarly, Luka Zhekaba (PDP, Obi 11) expressed shock on the desperation by some forces desperate to impose principal officers at the seventh assembly.
He explained that they have come for the inauguration of the assembly as well as the election of their Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively and would remain until they perform their constitutional responsibilities.
The Clark in in morning of Tuesday, June 6 said the inauguration of the assembly was postponed citing security reasons.
The Clark in the announcement said the postponement was directed by the governor based on security advice.
The speaker of the fifth and sixth assemblies, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi (APC, Umaisha/Ugya) is again eying the seat of the speaker.
Also in the race are Mr Danladi Jatau (APC-Kokona West), and Mr Daniel Ogazi (APC-Kokona East).
