Residents of Lugbe a suburb along the Airport Road, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has accused the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, unannounced hike in the electricity of illegally disconnecting them from the national grid for allegedly beaten up a one of their staff around Lugbe across.
Mr. Macaulay Adeleye a resident of the Lugbe village area of the community said we heard we were disconnected from the national grid because a staff of AEDC who had a misunderstanding with a their customer over electricity bill arrears, was manhandled and the entire Lugbe including this parts that is distance across the express road have been affected, it is unfortunate that AEDC have officials who can take crazy decisions like this and nobody has anything to say about it.
He said “We are not owing them and we have even paid the bill they hiked at this critical time when people are suffering from the challenges of our ailing economy and they have the guts to still disconnect us from the national grid. Must innocent people be made to suffer the sins of others that they know nothing about? The authorities should call them to order before the people who are already aggrieved by the economic situation of the country will react to this anomaly.
On her part
Mrs. Aleke Regina a resident of Lugbe Federal Housing, said she heard the news of the beating up of one of the staff of AEDC when she went to pay her electricity bill and kept wondering why the officials of AEDC took the decision of disconnect the whole community because of the crime committed by one person not even his neighbourhood should suffer this level of deprivation let alone the whole community it goes a long way to show the capacity of the people employed at the AEDC and how they take decisions haphazardly without mins who is affected by their abnormal resolution.
She “We to sue them for this unprofessional conduct to serve as deterrent to others with the same mind set. Even with the increase they added in the last bill they brought without informing their customers they still went ahead to disconnect us because of what we no nothing about. Instead of inviting the police to arrest those who assaulted their staff to set the records straight and if possible sue the person and his compound for the crime, they had to settle for less because they have monopoly. We will see where this will take them. ” She added
