The outgoing Vice Chancellor Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai Prof. Muhammed Nasiru Maiturare has said a total of 3,212 students were graduated at the 3rd combined convocation ceremony across various disciplines.
Addressing the teeming visitors at 3rd convocation held at the convocation square of the institution, said no student graduated with first class degree in Faculty of Education and Arts, but 2 graduated with first class in Management and social science, as well as Agriculture.
Maiturare who said this is his last convocation as vice chancellor of the institution, said a total 23 students graduated with first class degree, 700 with second class upper degree, 1990 students graduated with second class lower and 470 students graduated with third class degree while 29 students graduated with pass degree.
Prof. Maiturare painted out that, at the the postgraduate level, a total of 91 graduated in various disciplines, 58 Masters degree and 33 postgraduate Diplomas.
The overall best graduating student in the 2018/2019 session according to him, is Maryam Gomina of Physics Department with CGPA of 4.77. While that of 2917/2018 is Yansawu Adio.
“The females are excelling. Recall that the overall best graduating student for the last convocation was Sa’adat Usman of Biochemistry with a CGPA of 4.86. We are very proud to be associated with your success,”.
He said in keeping with the established tradition of the University, the two are offered automatic employment as Graduate Assistants to be trained up to PH.D. level in due course.
He employed the graduated students to constantly remains good ambassador of the university by displaying the IBBUL-edge quality where ever they find themselves.
Highlight of the occasion is conferment of post humus Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science Sc. ( Honoris Causa) to late Engr. Abdulkadir Kure founder; IBBU Lapai, represented by his wife Senator Zainab Kure.
Others who bag honorary degree were Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu with award of Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa).
And Justice Maria Sanda Zakogi, who bags award of Decree of Doctor of Law (LLD)
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu who was optimistic promised to to more to justify the award conferred on him.
He commended the university governing board for making the university one of the best in the Country.
He admonished the board not to allow the effort of late Abdulkadir Kure founder of the institution to go in vain.
Meanwhile, free flow of tears were witnessed when Late Abdulkadir Kure founder of the institution name was mentioned for the award.
Dignitaries at the occasion include former Governor of Lagos state Sanator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, prof. Nuhu Yakubu, former vice chancellor of Kano state University,
Governor Sani Belo of Niger state, Ambassador Dadda, among others.
