National Examination Council (NECO) has released guidelines and timetables as well as extended registration for the examinations.
The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NECO Prof. Godswill Obioma told journalists at a press conference said, NECO- BECE will commence 24th August 2020 to Monday 7th September 2020.
He said NECO- SSCE will commence on Monday 5th October 2020 to Wednesday 18th November 2020, while NECO-NCEE for admission of JSS1 Students into Federal Unity Colleges is slated for Saturday 17th October 2020.
“In addition, NECO has scheduled the BECE (Re-sit) to take place on 11th and Thursday 12th November 2020 for the prescribed relevant subjects.”
Responding to the number of registered candidates so far, the Registrar said before the covid 19 interrupted, a total of 169,144 candidates has registered for Senior School Certificate Examination SSCE, while 104, 341: has registered for BECE.
Prof. Godswill who said the examination will be conducted within the context of COVID-19 explained that registration for all the examination is still ongoing.
Prof. Godswill reiterated that registration for BECE would end 3 days to the commencement of the examination been Friday 21st August 2020 without any extension while that of National Common Entrance Examination NCEE ends a week before the commencement of the examination by Friday 10th October 2020 and registration for Senior School Certificate Examination SSCE would end on 10th September 2020 without room for further extension.

He advised students and pupils preparing to sit for the examinations by the Council to study hard and avoid the temptation of wanting to cheat during the examination as the Council has zero-tolerance for examination malpractice.
Going forward, the Council according to him will explore the possibility of installation and use of special CCTV cameras in all the examination centres and custodian points.

“In line with our mission to deliver examination whose results are trusted Worldwide for their credibility, we have put in place measures that would ensure appropriate standards and excellence before, during, and after the examination.
Some of the measures as pointed out by the NECO Boss include daily distribution of sensitive materials, biometric capturing of candidates, customised answer booklets for essay components of the examinations, and deployment of security agents to examination centres.
He stressed that all examination officers are mandatorily required to sign an oath of allegiance as a requirement to participate in their respective roles and responsibilities.
