PIB: You Are Not Fair To Host Community-Gov Udom Tells NASS

From Mathew Jwantu,
Minna

The Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel has said
that the National Assembly is not been fair to the oil producing communities in Nigeria for given them three percent.

Speaking at the 22nd graduation ceremony of El-Amin International School Maitumbi Minna Niger state, Governor Udom said “we have made our positions known as serving Governors on the controversy on PI bill”.

Udom who was reacting to the passage of the Petroleum industry bill said, “well, the National Assembly have past the bill, they are performing thier own duties we will also perform our own. So I don’t want to say more than that”.

He emphasized that “What we the sitting Governors are saying is that why can’t you give the host communities at least five (5) percent? Instead of 3 percent we can’t t say anything we have spoken as a body, and we will see how it goes I don’t think it is fair to just say only three (3) percent to the the host community where oil is produced.

He lamented that due to oil spillage the land is no longer good for cultivation “Our fishermen can no longer earn a living because of oil spillage to all communities, there is no more farm Land”.

So you can see the devastating effects on this communities. And is not so much to just say out of the proceeds from this oil, just give this people five (5) percent I don’t think they are asking for too much. In the wisdom of the National Assembly, they say the want to past three (3) percent so who are we? We can’t take away thier functions so they are performing thier function, we will also perform our own.

According to him, everybody has his/ her own function to play, the community has it’s own, national assembly they are playing thier own role so at the end of the day, I wish our nation the best.

He thanked the grand patron of El-Amin international School and the founding father General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, for inviting him.
