Sports Critical For Our Optimal Service Delivery-Says AHAPN Official
An official of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists in Nigeria (AHAPN) says engaging in sporting activities is critical in bringing out the best in pharmacists in terms of service delivery to the public.
Abubakar Danraka, an official of the association stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a novelty football match played between AHAPN Selected Football Team and Nasarawa Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) football team played in Lafia on Wednesday.
The novelty match is part of activities lined up for the Weeklong AHAPN 23rd Annual National Scientific Conference holding in Lafia from August 1st to August 5th with the theme “COVID-19 Experience: Expanding the role of health system pharmacists.”
Despite conceding two goals to the AHAPN side in the first 20 minutes of the encounter, the NUJ team rallied and fought back to win the entertaining match 4-3.
Speaking on the importance of sports, Danraka said fitness is very important for a pharmacist to be able to carry out his or her duty optimally hence the requirement that pharmacists engage in sporting activities regularly.
“As pharmacists, we always engage in sporting activities for us to be able to be fit to execute our pharmaceutical care services.

“We need to be well, alert and football is one of the avenues where we can display our fitness and also use the opportunity to bond together as we are all coming from different parts of the country,” he said.
He assured that the association is keen to take advantage of members interest in football to set up a football competition so as to get members competing from the zonal level and set up a team to represent the association in competitions.
Also speaking, Salihu Alkali, Chairman of NUJ, Nasarawa state chapter appreciated the association for for the novelty football match and assured that aside sports, the NUJ in the state is always ready to collaborate with any body on we’ll meaning engagements for the benefit of participants and the society.
The aside the novelty match, the association has carried out a medical outreach targeting about 1000 Indigenes among other activities.
