Thriving Beyond The Oil Economy In Nigeria

Some of the major proponent of growth in any nation of the world is economic diversification, whose indices is mentioned by her pluralistic sources of income geared towards galvanizing the engine of governance.

This was the norm in Nigeria until the discovery and exploration of crude oil in the 1950s which ironically obliterated our economic axiology.

This incoherency monopolized and malnourished our economy leading to the abandonment of a plethora of mineral and natural resources which posses the propensity of soaring our crawling economy to the apex.

Today, Nigeria that had played a lead role in the exportation of other agricultural produce, is now gasping for air under the claws of some imperialistic superpowers engrossed in their charade of oil supremacy leading to a dwindled economy in most developing countries with Nigeria taking the lead.

While the nation remains captivated in cluelessness and aimless pursued, it is pertinent to do an introspect of some of the mineral deposits in Nigeria with a view to leveraging on their availability for a healthier and prosperous economy.

Some of these solid minerals found in commercial quantities in Cross River state include, uranium, iron ore, manganese, tourmaline, barites, marbles, galena and sphalerite, coal, kaolin, sulphite, rutile, as well as, limestone.

Prominent among the mineral deposits in Nassarawa State are coal, barytes, salt, limestone, clays, glass sand, tantalite, columbite, cassiterite, iron ore, lead, and zinc.

The list of these mineral deposits in the country is endless, it however behoves on the authorities to look beyond the surface so that Nigeria can thrive beyond the oil economy.
