Using Bible/Qur’an During Swearing In Unconstitutional- Niger CJ

The Chief Judge of Niger state, Justice Aliyu Maiyaki has said that swearing in with the Quran or Bible is not a constitutional requirement.

Justice Maiyaki stated this while responding to questions raised by the state Governor and Etsu Nupe during the swearing in of High Court Judges in Minna.

Justice Aliyu Maiyaki explained that what is important is when you swear you definitely believe that you are going to abide by the oath.

According to him it was only a mere symbolic event and that what is important is the faith have you plaged to do justice then you are bound by that oath.

In his remarks Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said hence forth public officers will not be made to swear by the Quran or Bible in the state.

Alh Abubakar Sani Bello charged the newly sworn in Judges to discharge their duties without fear or favour to take Judiciary to the next level.

He said as High Court Judges they should do the needful to ensure that justice prevail in Niger state and Nigeria as a whole.

The three High Court Judges who took the oath before Niger state Governor are Barr Binta Bawa Justice Danladi Ahmed and Justice Salisu Alasan Majidadi.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello also presented forty six vehicles to the Judges in state to enable them discharge their duties diligently
