The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has disclosed that the party would not participate in the forthcoming Local Government elections in Nasarawa State.
The state Public Relations Officer (PRO) Chief Ezekiel Ayuba Kuje made this known at the end of the
State Executives and Local Government Chairmen of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Lafia, the State capital.
In a communique, the party alleged that scheduled elections by Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) was designed to favour only ruling APC.
The communique which was signed by Chief Ezekiel Ayuba Kuje further said the forthcoming election is already a failure due to the posture of state government and the Governor who didn’t want to conduct the election in the first instance.
The communique reads “NASIEC announced election on 7th July 2021 and mandated all political parties to commence campaign same day.
“NASIEC time table of scheduled election was typed on 16th July 2021 distributed to party offices on 19th July 2021, but they expected that parties would have conducted primary election beginning from 15th July 2021.
“Interested candidates to participates in the said elections are now to buy both Party interest forms and then proceed to buy NASIEC Nomination forms (NASIEC/C.F/001 A&B/ at a whoopee sum of N200,000 for a ward counselor and N500,000 for Local Government Chairmanship, as against been FREE in the years past. All this between 28th-30th July 2021.
“NASIEC electoral guidelines in Paragraph 27 sub-section 3&4 only permit the ward Returning officers to record results into form 8A and 8A(1).
“Paragraph 28 of the guideline vested power to declare winning candidates only on the Chairman of NASIEC whom we all know is an appointee of the Governor and APC government.
“You may recall that in 2014 election the ballot papers and the boxes of the winning parties were left in Shabu development area council and an announcement was made at Lafia based on such vested powers.
“The NASIEC Chairman is a card carrying member of APC, He was the immediate past APC appointed chairman of an L.G.A. in Nasarawa State
“The 2013 electoral law was dropped by the APC to stifle transparency and due process in local government elections in Nasarawa State.
“This government was not elected by the people but beneficiary of a rigged government vote both in 2015 and 2019; therefore those who stole people mandate cannot organize free and fair election.
“Those who stole people votes cannot deliver justice to his victims; we therefore cannot participate in an election that will fool the intelligence of our people given an outward look of a democracy whereas the entire process is deception.
“These are sure indicators that the NASIEC chairman is under strong instruction to deliver APC candidates in the local Government election.
The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) is therefore distancing herself from this local government election as we continue to agitate against the evil in the state but wont willingly give credence to a fraud process in the name of an election when we know clearly it’s a pure deception. However, any of our members that wish to take the risk with this government can proceed to do so”.
