Workers under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Company (SSAEAC) this morning pocketed the corporate headquarters of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) over anti workers posture of the management of the company led by the Managing Director, Mr Usman Gori Mohammed.
The workers numbering over 1000 stormed the company headquarters located in Zambezi street, Maitama as early as 7.30am, chanting “U G Mohammed must go to salvage the TCN.
Addressing workers at the gate, Deputy President General professional of the union, Comrade Musa Gambo accused the Managing Director, Mr Usman G. Mohammed of running TCN as his private company.
He said the worker’s has decided to take their destiny on their hands, so as to avert what he called total shut down of the company.
The Deputy President also disclosed that the pickering would last for two days, after which a total shut down of TCN offices nationwide.
Also speaking, General Secretary of SSAEAC, Bar Umar Abubakar said the workers have lost confidence on the MD, calling on president Muhammadu Buhari, through the Minister of Power, Babatunde Raji Fashola to urgently act by replacing U G Mohammed.
According to Bar Abubakar, the promotion exams which by law stated that a panel will be constituted to conduct the promotion exams, was jettisoned by the MD who instead brought a consultant for the exercises.
He said the demands of the unions includes : cancelation of the manipulated promotion exams, that all qualified persons should be promoted, implementation of reviewed salary since 2016 and the continuation of the meeting with the union national at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in one week.
Others are sack UG Mohammed to guarantee hope for electricity supply, end interference in union activities, Account of cleared containers from Port and the MD should account for about 1.5b dollars of foreign donors funds.
