The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) may resume it’s suspended strike any moment from now, as the fifteen day ultimatum issued on their demands has elapsed.
So far, the unions had summoned an emmergency meeting of the National Executive Council for , Thursday 31st January, 2019 to deliberate on the next line of action.
National Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Biobelemoye Josiah in a statement said the meeting has become necessary due to governments fragrant disregard for court order.
Josiah argued that the arbitration panel unit of the national industrial court had asked both government and the workers to maintain status quo ante, but government has gone ahead to violate the court order by activating ‘no work no pay policy.
The JOHESU chairman further said it was against Industrial relation principle for Government to has gone ahead to victimise workers involved in protests and strike.
The demands of the unions are full implementation of the consolidated health salary structure, CONHESS, which is to create equity in the sector among healthcare professionals.
JOHESU had written to the minister of labour and employment Chris Ngige fifteen days ago, notifying government of the violation of court order by the ministry health and its intention to go on strike.
