The Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Niger state chapter Mr. Alalade Femi has declared that the 2,000 schools shut down by the government were unregistered schools and not members of NAPPS in the state.
Responding to newspaper report that 2000 schools were shutdown in the state, the Association through a press statement signed by it’s Chairman Femi Alalade confirmed that it is true that 2000 schools were shut down but they were not registered members of NAPPS and were operating illegally.
The government is tight on course in closing down the schools as it would go a long way towards maintaining the standard of education in the state.
However, NAPPS has noted with dismay some words writen in the report and stands to say that those words are untrue and the Reporter had misinterpreted what was said.
On the report that the Commissioner had summoned the Executive Director of the Private School Board on why he did not scrutinise the files before bringing them to her table to be signed, the association wish to state that the statement is untrue and false as the Executive Director had never submitted any file directly to the Commissioner as all files submitted by the Board are usually submitted to the Permanent Secretary who will minute it to the Commissioner for further action.
On the part that the Board is only existing but not functioning, NAPPS needs to state that the Private Schools Board in Niger state is fully functional and active.
“We wish to state that at no time did we say that the ministry of education hijacked a project from an NGO from France who wanted to assist public and private schools in the state with provision of facilities and materials, such as textbooks, grants and aid infrastructural development. This statement is baseless and without facts.”
The Association calls on the media ‘not this medium’ to stop misinterpreting what was said to them and seek for clarification when they do not understand some issues instead of misinterpreting information given to them when they seek out information.
