The Embassy of Finland in Nigeria, have confirmed it would be partnering with the Young Journalists Forum, YJF, to sensitize young Nigerians especially journalists on salient global and national issues, with the quest to build peace among young people in the country.
The Finland Ambassador Pirjo Suomela -Chowdhury, made this known when she received a delegation of the YJF, led by the Coordinator, Comrade Chukwuma Nzeh, in her office at the Embassy in Abuja recently.
Pirjo noted that the embassy would be willing to host events organised by YJF, to support the quest to build the capacity of young people on issues concerning their future.
She added that she knows most of the challenges being experienced by young journalists and would be willing to support the quest to build their capacity for better performance on the job.
According to her, Nigeria and her country have been enjoying a cordial relationship since the establishment of its first Embassy in Sub-Saharan Africa in Lagos Nigeria in 1963.
Speaking earlier, leader of the YJF delegation, Comrade Nzeh, informed the envoy of the existing partnership with Embassy of Ecuador, and the willingness to further expand the scope because of the need to engage more young people to make them less vulnerable.
He said ahead of the 2019 general elections, the YJF, is organizing Youth Election Awareness Programs, in some states of the country to engage more young people to participate actively to enhance the electoral process. He said activities during the programs includes rallies in selected state capital, grassroots and seminar for youth group and training on election coverage for journalists.
Other members of the YJF delegation includes Moses John, Ereebi Agedah and Mashe Gwanma.
