Twenty people died and over again 48 others injured when two female bombers attacked a local market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State yesterday, local vigilante and other witnesses said.
The incidents occurred at Mandurari village, on the outskirts of Konduga town where the two females blew up themselves in the midst of local traders, killing over 20 people and injuring scores of others.
A member of the Civilian JTF in Konduga told Daily Trust at the State Specialist Hospital, “We are confused. We counted 20 dead bodies and some gave up on our way to Maiduguri. We brought at least 50 wounded people so far. We are still going back to convey the rest this night.”
A witness, Muhammad Kardi, said the death toll might be as high as 40 people. “As I am speaking with you, more than 30 are dead. Children and women are mostly the victims,” Kadir said.
At the State Specialists Hospital, children and women were on the floor due to lack of bed.
Three vehicles brought the wounded civilians along with military escorts to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri at 8:28 last night.
State Emergency Management Agency staff left Maiduguri for Konduga at 8:50pm to take the wounded civilians who were still waiting for evacuation.
Mandurari village is about 25 Kms from Maiduguri and 15 kms from Amarwa village which Boko Haram militants had last Saturday attacked, killing four people and injuring many others.
