A High Chief of Niger Delta and National Leader of the Niger Delta, Initiative for Actualization of Peace and Development, ND-IAPD, Emmanuel Otaoghene Shobor, has said he might be constrained to take legal action against the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, Limited, over alleged encroachment on his land around the Utorogun Gas plant in Delta State.
This is contained in a letter to the Managing Director, NPDC, by his lawyers, dated 10 April 2019, from A.K. Osawota & Co.
Titled : “Re: Trespass on Property of Chief Emmanuel Shobor, at Eyen Bush Iwhrekan town. In Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State.” We have the instructions of High Chief Emmanuel Shobor, to on his behalf once again write to remind you of his complaints” in an earlier letter on the subject matter.
He said, Take Notice that should you fail to comply with our modest demand within the next 14 days, from the receipt of this correspondence, we may be constrained to employ every available legal means to seek redress against your oppressive action in Court of Law.
The earlier letter, dated 9 February 2019, by B.N. Okpuzor & Co. signed by B.N. Okpuzor, reads in part,
Our client is the owner of the piece or parcel of land shown in survey plan number HNL/DT/013/2015, which is dated 23rd day of January 2015, made by a certified surveyor, lying and situated at Eyen Bush, Iwhrekan town near the Utorogun Gas plant in Delta State.
Your company has committed trespass on our client’s aforesaid piece or parcel of land by entering upon the land which includes the easements to begin the construction of a building without the consent and authority of our client.” The law firm affirmed.
