Motorists along the Nyanya-Mararaba routes have continued to witness increased Theft of phones, hand bags and other valuables by daredevils during traffic jams at night. This development has led to loss of wanton lives and property by road users who are not familiar with the antics of the criminals. The marauders now parade themselves as hawkers only to snatch phones and hand bags of unsuspected road users before running into the nearby bushes. Investigations by this reporter also revealed that were necessary, the criminals uses motorcycles to orchestrate their evil acts. In a chart with some of the victims who narrated their ugly experiences in an emotion ridden voices, they say, My name is Comfort Omale. I came to Abuja to visit my Aunty who stays in Mararaba, I spoke with her when I was at Abacha barracks, she said I should come down to Mararaba bus stop, in getting there as told by the bus driver, I ignorantly removed my phone to call her only for someone on motorcycle to remove the phone from my ear. I cried for assistance, to no avail. My Aunt couldn’t reach me on the phone anymore yet it was getting late. Amidst my frustrations, another person came to me pretending to help me out of my predicaments only to connive with his friends to snatch my hand bag. I was so devasted because I didn’t know how to locate my Aunt and I had no money on me. It took the grace of God for my Aunt to eventually locate me. I don’t wish even my worst enemy to have this kind of experience”. Another victim, Ikechukwu Lucky, says “I entered a coaster bus from Wuse to Nyanya, I sat by the window side charting with my friends on social media, in getting close to Kugbo, someone who pretended to be selling recharge cards in the traffic snatched my phone and ran into the bush. I couldn’t jump down from the vehicle to chase him. I couldn’t come term with the fact that my #50,000 is gone forever. A phone I bought less than a week is gone just like that”. He used the opportunity to plead for government intervention. “government should help us by mounting security personnels around this road so as to help flush these criminals that have become worst nightmares to us”.
