In an effort to curtail the fallen standard of Education in the Country, Niger state government has recruited 2,500 teachers to resume work in November.
Chairman State Universal Basic Education Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Bawa told Journalists in Minna in a press briefing
Bawa who faulted the 6 3 3 system of education in the country, called on government to a matter of urgency review and reverse back to 7 years in primary, and 5 years in secondary.
“In the olden days we only have pass, repeat, and advice to withdraw on results sheets there was nothing like carryover, spillover please somebody who cannot passed what is he carrying over or what is he spilling over”.
He maintained that a total of 3,989 teachers to take care of 193, 304 junior secondary schools in the state.
He stressed that the enroll me to primary schools is 721,977 with 406, 04 male and 315,973 females
With 21,767 teachers.
The chairman who lamented on the standard of education in the state said, Niger state Universal Basic Education Board has signed MoU with Universal solution to train 1680 head teachers, 2447 primary 1 teachers and 150 officials.
A tour to some of some of schools according to him, revealed that some of the teachers cannot spell the name of the village the are teaching. Hence the need for the training.
He lamented that most NCE holders cannot compete with Grade 2 holders.
