In its quest to maintained the global best practice, high standard in discipline and transparency, the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna has withdrawn a total of 169 students for various reasons bordering on poor academic performance, misconduct and abscondment.
The Vice Chancellor Federal University Of Technology Minna Prof. Abdulahi Bala made this known at the her 29th convocation ceremony held at the convention square of the institution.
The VC said among the withdrawn students, 120 are undergraduates students, 48 postgraduate students.
“These decision are painful but necessary that we hope will send a message to the students that we expect the best from them as much as possible”
Prof. Bala also disclosed that Ogunfolaji Yusuf Oluwasegun of the department of Civil Engineering in the school of Infrastructure and Process Engineering Technology (SIPED) who is an orphan, turn out to be the best graduating student.
“I am proud to state that, following global best practices and true to our core values of excellence, integrity and quality service delivery, the academic certificates of all our graduands are available for collection as soon as the convocation ceremony closes”.
In his valedictory speech, the over all best graduating student Ogunfolaji Yusuf Oluwasegun said the first time he made “A” s was in 200l and he decided to tried herder to maintained the position.
” I can also remember how amazed and inspired I was in my 300 level, when a lecturer, the Dean of Postgraduate Schools, prof. Salawu Sadiku, solved a problem using 5 different methods. I thought if someone could be this exceptional, then I could also work hard to excel and be that exceptional too.”
Narrating his experience to journalists with tears rolling on his cheeks, Yusuf who held from Ogun state Abeukuta Local government said he is an orphan as he lost his mother when he was eight months old.
He told reporters that he was brought up by his grandmother but now she is gradually becoming old to continue with the good work she has started.
On his part, Chancellor of the institution, his Eminence Eze (Dr.) Eberechi N. Dick (JP) called on the graduating student to see their certificate as a license to transform the world into a better.
“Be the change agents that the country truly need and provide innovative practical solutions to the litany of problems facing the development of this country.”
